Anna Babych – the Participant of the Roundtable Discussion on Business Restructuring, Corporate Law and M&A

On February 24, 2009, the Yurydychna Gazeta convened a roundtable on the topic “Restructuring Business: Corporate Law and M&A. Legal Advice for Business” at the Delo Press Center. The event brought together managers of Ukrainian law firms, top lawyers and representatives of specialized mass media. Vasil Kisil & Partners Law Firm was represented by Anna Babych, Senior Attorney of Corporate and M&A Practice Group.
The roundtable provided an insight into such matters as business restructuring as a means of cost optimization, market demand for corporate law services, the possibility of resorting to bankruptcy proceedings in the process of client’s business restructuring. The attendees of the roundtable also summed up the activity on the M&A market in 2008, opined on the current situation in the practice and gave their forecasts for 2009. Management issues such as creation of new practice areas and groups in law firms, lawyer selection and importance of psychological contact sparked a none the less interesting discussion.
According to Ms. Babych, today an increasing number of Ukrainian companies and holdings, from big corporations to mid-size companies, develop and implement programs aimed at restructuring and improving efficiency of business, which is in line with the latest trends in the global economy. “The main driving force behind the restructuring trend is the intention to raise business value and enhance company’s attractiveness for strategic investors or for potential buyers,” she added.
