Oleksandr Mamunya – Speaker at International Conference on Intellectual Property for Students of Law

On March 26-27, 2009, at the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy of Ukraine (Kharkiv) the European Law Students’ Association held the first International Conference of Law Students on the topic “Topical Issues of Protecting Intellectual Property Rights: Theory and Practice”. This conference is part of academy’s wider special purpose international program.

This event is mostly intended to involve young people and skilled professionals into discussing topical issues in the area of intellectual property rights protection, in exploring developments in the field, elaborating and improving of mechanisms for real application of law in the area of intellectual property.

The conference consisted of presentations followed by discussions involving the participation of intellectual property experts: specialists from international institutions, State Department of Intellectual Property, major education establishments of Ukraine, and practicing lawyers.

Vasil Kisil & Partners Law Firm was represented by Oleksandr Mamunya, Senior Associate of its Intellectual Property practice group. Oleksandr told the students about the conflict of various intellectual property subjects and defined the meanings of “trademark” and “trade name”.

Oleksandr Mamunya also shared his impressions of the conference and its participants by saying: “Such events are very important as they help to share valuable expertise and exchange new ideas in the area of intellectual property rights. They not only gather talented students and the best practitioners of Ukraine, but also encourage young people to make actual breakthroughs and facilitate academic achievements.”
