The 7th Stanislav Dnistrianskyi National Moot Court Competition on Civil Law and Procedure took place in Lviv on November 6-7, 2008. The same as last year’s event, this year the moot court tournament was sponsored by the law firm Vasil Kisil & Partners.

This format of the debate was launched for the first time in 2001. The number of competing teams has more than doubled since then. Moreover, the caliber of participants, as well as the prestige of the competition grows year by year.

This year the competition attracted participation of 21 teams represented by students of various higher education establishments of Ukraine. The debate is comprised of two stages: a semifinal and a final. The semifinal moot court session dealt with matters of invalidating a contract and triggered heated discussions among the teams. The final round was dedicated to intellectual property matters. All judges and guests of the competition pointed out the complexity of proposed cases and out-of-the-box approaches of the participants to solving them.

Andriy Stelmashchuk, Senior Associate of Vasil Kisil & Partners, was a special guest and part of the panel of judges. “One of social responsibility priorities for Vasil Kisil & Partners,” he said, “is to support social projects aimed to build a democracy and foster young talents. Hopefully, our co-projects with the Students’ League of the Ukrainian Bar Association will further help us to further support and encourage students to enhance their theoretic knowledge of law and put it into practice.”
