International IP Law Firms is a bilingual intellectual property directory published annually by Hurrymedia that maintains a strong legal entity network effectively serving legal professionals in China and abroad. It is published annually to satisfy the communication needs between international IP law firms and China. The aim of the publication is to build a bridge between international IP law firms and Chinese business community while further educating enterprises and organizations in China with international intellectual property knowledge.

Recommendation of Vasil Kisil & Partners in this edition comes as no surprise since this law firm has built a strong reputation for protecting intellectual property rights and acting for clients against various forms of unfair business practices. VKP advises clients on a broad range of issues from prosecution and oppositions to structuring and implementation of cross-border and domestic transactions involving intellectual property as well as tax and regulatory advice. The litigation practice of the firm in intellectual property is especially extensive and includes cancellation/ invalidation disputes, unfair competition and unfair trade practice cases.

The prestigious Chambers Europe 2009: Dispute Resolution guide confirms VKP’s top ranking in this area of law by stating the following: “The dispute resolution practice at this independent firm maintains its place at the top thanks to its fantastic track record in court. It handles arbitration and litigation, internationally and locally, with a particular focus on corporate litigation. Led by the head of the litigation practice Oleksiy Filatov, it recently acted for Eurosport in several matters involving infringement of trade marks, copyright and neighbouring rights in Ukraine.”

In recent years, trademark infringement cases in China have become more numerous and increasingly complex. Because such litigation serves as the final defense of trade mark holders' rights, conflicts arising from such cases are much more serious than those in other dispute resolution proceedings. In some cases, a company's survival may hinge on the outcome of such litigation, especially when the trademark in question ranks among the company's most important assets.

The importance of China in the global economy cannot be overestimated. According to another respected source in global legal industry – Asia Pacific Legal 500 - China’s growth has been put into sharp focus as the western markets have struggled. As one of the BRIC countries (along with Brazil, Russia and India), it is seen as one of the world’s most important emerging markets. The country’s infrastructure, both physical and legal, continues to develop at a rate unparalleled in the major economies.

Considering the continues straightening of the cooperation between China and Ukraine, International IP Law Firms 2009 Edition includes a brief overview of Ukrainian economy and most relevant intellectual property issues, as well as IP law updates and IPR application regulations in Ukraine to be taken into account by Chinese enterprises entering he Ukrainian market.

Currently Ukrainian Regional Development and Construction Ministry is working on developing the cooperation between the two countries in the construction infrastructure sphere.

In his reaction to the recommendation received by Vasil Kisil & Partners from China’s International IP Law Firms 2009 Edition firm’s partner and Head of Public Private Partnership, Concessions & Infrastructure Practice Oleg Alyoshin stated: “In anticipation of the forthcoming European Football Championship 2012, to be held in Ukraine, there is a lot of discussion regarding the implementation of existing tasks through public-private partnership (PPP). As pioneers in this area of law our dedicated PPP, Concessions & Infrastructure lawyers participated in drafting and developing the necessary legislation that needs to be implemented to facilitate the further development of Ukraine's infrastructure, as well as to move forward with many important projects that will help the country both socially and economically.”
