Vasil Kisil & Partners Law Firm has been highly commended by an international judging panel in a CSR case competition and received a Pro Bono Award 2015 for the outstanding pro bono contribution to the state-owned enterprise governance reform. The international judging panel of the competition was comprised of the most prominent CSR experts from 8 countries worldwide who assessed the CSR cases of 45 Ukrainian companies, including 9 from law firms. The awarding ceremony was held on December 1 at the Business That Changes the Country conference hosted by the Kyiv Mohyla Business School. The competition was organized by the Center for CSR Development in partnership with the Yurydychna Gazeta.

In February 2015, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine invited VKP’s lawyers together with other renowned experts to join the working group on SOE Reload, the state-owned enterprise reform. As part of the working group, the firm’s lawyers have made a significant contribution to the development of draft Law No. 3062, which is designed to improve the quality of governance of state-owned enterprises. Once put into effect, this Law will, among other things, enable to implement international corporate governance standards in the national economy sector in Ukraine and help recover the same. Draft Law No. 3062 specifically foresees harmonisation of the corporate governance of state-owned corporate and unitary enterprises with international standards, particularly OECD Principles. The drafters of this Law offered solutions enabling to set up supervisory boards at state-owned unitary enterprises with their scope of competence as prescribed by law, appointing independent members to the supervisory boards of state-owned enterprises, establishing requirements for independent members, etc.

Vasil Kisil & Partners is represented in the working group on the state-owned enterprise governance reform by Oleg Alyoshin, partner, Volodymyr Igonin, counsellor, and Taisiia Asadchykh, associate.
